Inline-4 fairing pull adds 1–1.5 hrs. Always quote high end on unfamiliar bikes. Parts quoted separately every time.
Known Problem Areas — General Sport Bikes
R1 (04–08) Stator Rotor: Magnets break loose from rotor housing — catastrophic if ignored. Requires special flywheel puller; collar easily drops into oil pan during removal. Always drain oil before stator access and have magnet ready to fish. Quote exhaust removal + possible oil pan drop time.
ZX-6R / 636 (05–06) ECU: ECU fries from undertail exhaust heat — bike won't rev past ~9k RPM. Diagnose ECU before swapping any other parts. Known fix: swap ECU from a 2006 model onto a 2005.
ZX-6R Cam Chain Tensioner: Factory spring tensioner must be fully removed, manually retracted, reinstalled — do NOT loosen in place. If timing jumps, heads off. Always wedge chain before tensioner removal.
GSX-R 600/750/1000 (06–09) Stator: Known weak stators — high failure rate 20–30k miles. Always replace R/R at same time; a bad R/R kills the new stator in weeks.
CBR600RR Fork Seals: Very common on bikes 10+ years old. Try Seal Mate tool first — if seal just has debris, saves a full fork pull.
Buell (XB/Blast) Stator: Located in engine primary — behind clutch basket. Requires clutch removal before stator access. More labor than typical sportbike stator swap.
Buell XB Starter Relay: Very common failure point — bike cranks slow or won't crank, battery tests good. Known weak point on all XB models. Easy swap but frequently misdiagnosed.

🔱Triumph — Daytona 675 · Speed Triple · Street Triple · Tiger
Cam chain tensioner is a known recurring issue across the lineup
Triumph Known Issues
Cam Chain Tensioner (Street Triple / Speed Triple / Tiger): Extremely common failure — hydraulic tensioner can stick, rattle, or fail catastrophically between 2,500–18,000 miles. Forum: "Mine never made a sound but the case was already damaged inside." Do NOT just replace the tensioner — inspect the chain guides and case for damage while open. APE manual tensioner is the preferred long-term fix. OEM replacement ~$85 from Partzilla.
Regulator / Rectifier (2006–2009 Street Triple, Daytona 675): Recall-level issue — R/R overheats and stops charging. Bike stalls when battery discharges. Faulty R/R also kills the stator. Replace both when either fails. MOSFET upgrade recommended over OEM replacement.
Street Triple Downshift / Gearbox: Known issue getting from 4th to 3rd under hard braking — acknowledged by Triumph but never fully resolved. Not a repair, just set customer expectations.
Triumph 955i (Bonneville / TT / Sprint): Older cam chain tensioners can also fail — check tensioner blades while inside.
Cam Chain Tensioner Replacement — Triumph Triple
Remove tensioner, inspect chain guides and case interior for wear/damage (CRITICAL). Install new OEM or APE manual tensioner. Lock engine with cam cover and crank timing mark before removal.

Desmo service: NEVER quote flat — inspect first, call customer, get approval before shimming
Ducati Desmo Service Rules
Never quote a flat price for desmo — shimming adds 2–4 hrs + up to $400 in parts. Inspect first. Call customer. Get verbal approval.
Closing shims require special tool to pull rocker pins. Always correct opening shims first — measure closers only after openers are confirmed in spec.
Have parts in hand before teardown. Shims from DesmoTimes.com or Partzilla — allow lead time. Belts too.
V4 models (Panigale V4, Streetfighter V4): Full fairing + throttle bodies off minimum. Quote at 2× the V-twin rate.
Ducati timing belts are engine-critical. Belt failure on the road = engine damage, likely total. Never talk a customer out of the belts.
Desmo Valve Inspection — V-Twin Belt Drive (Check Only, No Shims)
Tank, airbox, throttle bodies off per model. Both valve covers removed. Measure all 8 opening and closing clearances. Document all readings — call customer before any shimming.

🦅Buell — XB9R · XB12R · XB12S · 1125R · Blast
Unique design quirks — stator behind clutch, oil in frame, limited parts
Buell Known Issues
XB Stator Access: Stator is in the engine primary — behind the clutch basket. Clutch removal required before any stator work. Far more labor than typical sportbike.
XB Starter Relay: Very common failure — bike won't crank or cranks slowly with good battery. Frequently misdiagnosed. Quick/cheap swap once identified.
XB Oil in Frame: Buell uses the frame as oil reservoir. Frame weld micro-cracks can allow seepage — inspect weld areas on any XB.
1125R (Rotax Engine): Parts increasingly hard to source — confirm availability before quoting anything complex.
Parts Availability (all Buell): Ceased production 2009. OEM parts finite. Always confirm availability BEFORE tearing the bike apart.

Fluid services in Fluids tab. V-twins are generally faster than inline-4s. Dual-carb bikes — have parts on hand before teardown. Victory and Indian are shaft drive — no chain service, add final drive oil to every visit.
Known Issues — Cruisers
Victory Freedom Engine (88ci / Early): Cam chain tensioner hydraulic units can stick from oil drain-down after sitting. Cold rattle that clears after warmup — clean tensioner before replacing it. Torque compensator spring in primary weakens over time and produces noise under load in neutral. Spring upgrade available through aftermarket.
Victory (All) Primary Oil Seepage: Minor seepage at primary gasket is considered normal by the community — but check torque on cover bolts first before condemning the gasket. Over-tightening strips threads. Magnetic drain plug is a good upgrade to recommend.
Victory (All) Parts Availability: Production ended 2017. OEM parts are finite — always confirm availability before quoting complex work.
Triumph Bonneville / T120 (Modern Parallel Twin): Cam chain tensioner rattle on cold start — same family of issues as Street Triple. Hydraulic type can tick for a few minutes; if persistent after warmup, replace it. OEM $80–100.
Yamaha V-Star 650 / Virago Carbs: Notorious for clogged pilot jets from ethanol fuel sitting. Often misdiagnosed as electrical. Always clean and rebuild both carbs as a set — never just one.
Honda Shadow 750 Stator: Known weak stator on Spirit and Aero models 2001–2009. Rick's replacement is the go-to. Replace R/R at same time.

Goldwing Known Issues
Stator / Alternator: GL1800 uses a big external alternator — front wheel, nose fairing, and coolant drain required to access it. Full-day job done properly. Never quote this as a quick job.
Fork Seals — OEM Kit Goes OOS Frequently: WingStuff OEM kits go out of stock. Have All Balls GL1800 kit as backup — it covers 2001–2017. Always order kit before starting the job. Separate OEM parts cost $164+ vs $98–105 assembled kit.
Coolant System: GL1800 coolant flush includes the heater core — must be flushed and bled properly. Use Honda HP Coolant premix only. Budget 2–3 hrs, not 1.
Throttle Body Sync: All 6 throttle bodies must sync together. Requires vacuum tool and patience. Often improves idle quality dramatically on higher-mileage bikes. Include at every major service.
ABS Brake Bleeding: Goldwing linked ABS system requires specific bleeding sequence. Do NOT use standard pressure bleeder without following Honda procedure.

M8 Oil Consumption (107ci especially): Known issue across M8 107 engines. Set customer expectations — it's the platform. Always ask about oil level at intake.
Twin Cam Cam Bearings (TC88): Inner cam bearings fail, leading to cam plate damage. Any TC with cam chest noise = quote full cam chest rebuild, not just bearings.
